Knitting Artist - Art-to-Wear
Teacher/Lecturer
Workshop Organizer - Retreats
At age 14 I knit my first sweater, a raglan pullover, and it was so big it fit my father. The yarn shop proprietor showed me how to make it smaller-by cutting off the ribbing and knitting down and taking it in at the sides. Because I had to cut into my very first project, I have no fear about cutting my knitting and have done it countless times since! I love to include this technique in my finishing workshops. |

In the early 90's I took workshops with Lee Anderson and Priscilla Gibson-Roberts who both have had a lasting impact on me. One of the most memorable moments of Lee's class was when she made us stand up and pledge "I will never ever knit a plain back!" I have since gone on to develop my own designs-ideas come to me as a result of our travels or because I want to use a certain technique or yarn. I tend to knit with lots of colours rather than texture. This could be an influence of my other passions-wall quilts and art-to-wear. |

I have had a textile arts business since 1998. Alterations and custom sewing take about 50% of my time and the other 50% is split between teaching workshops (pattern fitting, knitting, and quilting) and commissions (contemporary wall quilts and art-to-wear). In 1999 I co-founded the Okanagan Knitting Retreat with Wendy Henderson and the late Gloria Hanson. |

My workshops and lectures reflect my textile interests from garment fitting and finishing techniques to mitred modules, socks with short row heels and toes, entrelac and lace knitting. Visit my website for complete descriptions including the Okanagan Knitting Retreat. |
