My knitwear designs feature color and texture rather than complex stitches. Detail and visual intrigue are achieved by combining many diverse yarns, including silk and novelties, into a single piece. Using hand-dyed yarns mixed with highly textured ones, I love to paint with the needles, allowing rich color stories to unfold as I go. No plain surfaces here. In fact, I often embellish my pieces with beads and/or semi-precious stones.

For me, colour and texture rule, with the inspiration feeding my imagination coming from the natural world. I see knitting as art, as viable as any other, and no matter what the tool or preferred palette, in human hands, anything can happen.
As a teacher, I like to guide both beginning and experienced knitters to see knitting in a fresh new way, to take a stash of seemingly incompatible yarn and urge them to work together to create something unique, even beautiful. |
My patterns are created for both those comfortable reading written instructions as well as for more visual learners who need something more telling than a chart to guide the way. I include either a texture or a color map with most of my patterns so that knitters can more easily make their own yarn choices when following my designs.
Besides selling my work in galleries and shows, my patterns will be available over the next year through books and my web site. |
